Incheon International Airport has ranked first in the world for international passenger volume in the first half of this year.
This marks the first time since the airport opened in 2001.
Incheon International Airport Corp. announced today (August 13) that the number of international passengers from January to June reached a provisional 38.39 million, a 6.3% increase compared to the same period last year.
Based on provisional statistics from Airports Council International (ACI), this is the highest figure among 1,234 airports worldwide.
Following Incheon Airport, London Heathrow Airport in the UK (37.79 million) and Singapore Changi Airport (34.53 million) ranked second and third, respectively.
Incheon Airport's global ranking for international passenger volume has steadily risen from 10th in 2002 (20.55 million) to 5th in 2018 (67.68 million), and 3rd in 2024 (70.67 million).
Incheon International Airport Corp. analyzed that the transfer functions of Middle Eastern airports, such as Dubai, weakened in the aftermath of the war between the US and Iran, causing existing air travel demand between Dubai and Europe to flow into Incheon Airport.
Including both passenger and cargo planes, 101 airlines currently operate routes from Incheon Airport to 183 cities across 53 countries.
