A passenger boat has capsized on Lake Kariba in southern Africa's Zimbabwe, leaving 15 people dead and 27 missing.
According to local online media outlet NewZimbabwe and other sources on the 12th (local time), the vessel "Mbuya Nehanda," carrying at least 114 passengers and 5 crew members, capsized the previous afternoon while traveling to an island used as a fishing spot within the lake.
Rescue authorities report that 77 people have been rescued so far.
The bodies of 15 people have been recovered, and at least 27 remain missing.
Because children under the age of 5 did not require tickets, the exact number of passengers is unconfirmed, meaning the death and missing tolls could rise further.
The vessel, operated by a regional development fund, has a passenger capacity of 90.
Authorities confirmed that the accident vessel was carrying passengers in excess of its capacity at the time of operation.
Lake Kariba is located along the border with Zambia and is the world's largest artificial lake, created in the 1950s by constructing a dam on the Zambezi River.
