Actor Ha-young, who gained recognition through appearances in dramas such as Severe Trauma Center and True Education, has retracted her previous stance denying her great-grandfather's pro-Japanese history and issued an apology.
Recently, Ha-young stated on a variety show that her great-grandfather studied Western medicine in Japan and was the first doctor to open a practice in Korea, making them a four-generation medical family.
Following the broadcast, it was revealed that her great-grandfather was Ahn Sang-ho, who worked as a doctor during the Japanese colonial period, sparking online controversy over suspicions of his pro-Japanese activities.
The agency, which had previously dismissed the claims as groundless, stated yesterday (August 11) that they confirmed records of the great-grandfather listed as a council member of the Daejeong Chinmokhoe, a pro-Japanese organization founded in 1916, and apologized for responding without sufficient verification.
Due to this controversy, Ha-young has canceled an interview scheduled to take place on Friday.
