Firefighting resources from across the country will be fully mobilized to supply water to Gyeongnam Province, which is suffering from water shortages due to prolonged heatwaves and drought.
The National Fire Agency announced that it will issue a national fire mobilization order effective at 8:00 p.m. today (August 11), deploying firefighting forces nationwide to support the supply of agricultural and domestic water in the Gyeongnam region.
Accordingly, 200 water tank trucks and 400 firefighters belonging to fire headquarters in other cities and provinces will be deployed to the Gyeongnam region to carry out water supply support activities through the 13th.
This measure was taken in accordance with President Lee Jae-myung's directive to fully mobilize necessary administrative resources to minimize public damage caused by the heatwave and drought.
A national fire mobilization order is issued when it is difficult to respond to disasters such as fires with the firefighting capabilities of a specific city or province alone, or when there is a need to mobilize firefighting resources at the national level.
According to the Agricultural Drought Management System, the average reservoir water level in the Gyeongnam region currently stands at 33.5%, the lowest in the country and 46.8% of the average normal level of 72%.
Among the 18 cities and counties in Gyeongnam, 17 have entered the agricultural drought stage, with three areas—Miryang, Geoje, and Haman—facing the "severe" stage.
The agricultural drought stages are divided into four levels: attention, caution, alert, and severe.
