Today (Aug. 11), Seoul reached 34°C (93°F). Although it was still hot, the humidity was not too high, providing a bit of relief.
While not having a direct impact on South Korea, typhoons developing in the surrounding areas are acting as variables for our weather.
Tomorrow, northeasterly winds will blow along the edge of a high-pressure system, bringing scorching heat mainly to the western regions, while the east coast will be cloudy with rain.
Typhoon Chan-hom, visible on the right, will pass through the Japanese archipelago tonight and weaken. As this weakened low-pressure system gradually flows into the East Sea of Korea, rain will continue around the east coast for three days starting tomorrow.
Meanwhile, rain clouds are expected to reach the eastern part of the Gyeongsang region, which has been experiencing severe drought this summer, the day after tomorrow.
Looking at the expected precipitation for tomorrow and the day after, 20 to up to 60 mm of rain is forecasted for the east coast region, and 10 to 40 mm of much-needed rain is expected in Busan, Ulsan, and the eastern inland areas of Gyeongnam the day after tomorrow.
Tropical nights will take a break tonight as well.
Minimum temperatures will hover around 20°C (68°F), feeling even cooler than last night.
Tomorrow afternoon temperatures will remain high, with Seoul at 32°C (90°F) and Jeonju at 33°C (91°F), continuing the scorching heat mainly in the western regions.
In the latter half of the week, hot and humid air will flow into the lower atmosphere, bringing the possibility of showers to inland areas, and rain is forecasted for Jeju Island over the weekend.
