At around 4:55 PM today (August 11), a fire broke out in a 15th-floor unit of an apartment building in Gayang-dong, Gangseo-gu, Seoul, leaving two people dead and one injured.
The two victims found in the apartment's flowerbed were residents of the unit where the fire started, and they are believed to have fallen from the building.
The deceased were identified as a 61-year-old woman with a brain lesion and her 38-year-old son, who were mother and son.
A 63-year-old woman living in the neighboring unit was transported to the hospital after inhaling smoke.
Fire authorities deployed 25 pieces of equipment and 87 personnel, bringing the major flames under control in about 20 minutes at around 5:19 PM, and completely extinguishing the fire at around 6:08 PM.
The fire prompted 40 residents to evacuate on their own, and the unit where the fire originated was completely burned down.
Fire authorities plan to investigate the cause of the fire and the extent of the property damage.
