▲ Joint petition urging the inclusion of the Shinbundang Line extension in the national plan
Suwon, Uiwang, Gunpo, and Ansan municipalities have urged the government to include the Shinbundang Line extension project in the national railway network construction plan, aiming to establish it as a core transportation axis for the southwestern Gyeonggi region.
Suwon Mayor Lee Jae-joon, Uiwang Mayor Kim Sung-je, Gunpo Mayor Han Dae-hee, and Ansan Deputy Mayor Heo Nam-seok signed a joint petition at the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly briefing room on the 11th, urging the government to reflect the route in the national plan.
Thirteen provincial assembly members representing constituencies in the respective municipalities also attended the signing ceremony.
The Shinbundang Line Suwon, Uiwang, Gunpo, and Ansan extension is a 14.54 km metropolitan railway route connecting the existing Gwanggyo Station to Jangan District in Buksuwon, Imok District, Uiwang Station, the 3rd new towns in Uiwang, Gunpo, and Ansan, and Banwol Station.
The joint petition states that if the Shinbundang Line extension is pursued, the four southwestern metropolitan cities will be linked, improving accessibility to Gangnam in Seoul in connection with the GTX-C route.
It also emphasized that the project is necessary for citizens' transportation convenience and regional development, as it will lay the core foundation for regional growth, including the creation of jobs for young people, R&D, the fostering of future logistics and mobility industries, and the vitalization of high-tech industries.
The four municipalities plan to submit the joint petition to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport this month.
