The special investigation unit for the December 29 airplane disaster launched raids on the Korea Airports Corporation, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and the Busan Regional Aviation Administration starting this morning (August 11).
The special investigation unit stated that, regarding the accident on December 29, 2024, where an aircraft attempting an emergency landing at Muan International Airport collided with a localizer, resulting in 179 deaths and 2 injuries among the 181 passengers on board, investigators were dispatched to the Korea Airports Corporation and other locations starting at 9:00 a.m. today to conduct the searches.
An official from the special unit stated, "We are conducting the search and seizure to additionally secure necessary materials related to the case currently being investigated under charges of professional negligence resulting in death and injury."
Police have booked 45 individuals on charges including professional negligence resulting in death and injury in connection with the airplane disaster, and are reviewing whether charges under the Serious Accidents Punishment Act regarding public disasters can be applied.
