A sentencing hearing is set to take place for an individual identified as A, who has been put on trial on charges of stalking actor Hwang Jung-min.
On August 11, the Goyang Branch of the Uijeongbu District Court will hold the sentencing hearing for A, who was sued by Hwang Jung-min for violations of the Act on Punishment of Stalking Crimes and other charges. The prosecution's sentencing recommendation is scheduled to be made during the hearing.
Hwang Jung-min filed a complaint against A in August of last year on charges including the violation of the Stalking Punishment Act. In February of the following year, the court issued a summary order fining A 3 million won, but A contested the decision and requested a formal trial.
The conflict between the two, previously known as an actor and a fan, surfaced when A shared photos, text messages, and call recordings via social media claiming a personal relationship with Hwang. In response, Hwang's agency released an official statement defining A as a stalking suspect who had continuously harassed the actor, noting that the court had issued three separate provisional measures, including restraining orders.
Regarding the posts shared by A, the agency warned of a firm legal response, stating, "We plan to take additional legal action regarding the maliciously edited posts."
However, A denied the stalking charges, claiming to have had personal exchanges and even pursued a business venture with Hwang. A further characterized the situation as "emotional, sexual, and labor exploitation occurring amid an asymmetry of power."
A also filed a damage suit worth approximately 200 million won against Hwang. A claimed to have suffered losses during the cancellation process of a soju business venture initiated at Hwang's proposal. The Seoul Central District Court referred the civil case to mediation last June, with a mediation session scheduled for August 14.
A's disclosures targeting Hwang continued until the morning of August 11, the day of the sentencing hearing for the stalking charges. A has continued to upload multiple posts on social media, exposing and criticizing Hwang.
