Jeong, who was near Ayajin Beach in Goseong-gun, Gangwon Province, yesterday (August 10), sensed that something unusual was happening.
He caught sight of a 119 emergency ambulance rushing by with its siren blaring.
Sensing that an accident had occurred, Jeong immediately moved his boat.
Steering his vessel toward the direction of the siren, Jeong spotted an individual, A, drifting in the sea.
It was a woman in her 20s of Kyrgyz nationality who had been swept out to sea by waves while playing in the water.
Jeong quickly approached A and successfully carried out the rescue himself.
A was reportedly swept away by waves while swimming in the waters near Ayajin Beach in Toseong-myeon, Goseong-gun, at 2:35 PM that day.
Rescued by Jeong, A was handed over to the 119 emergency rescue service and transferred to a nearby hospital.
At the time of the rescue, she showed symptoms of mild breathing difficulty and a headache, but her life was reportedly not in danger.
Jeong's prompt judgment and rescue prevented a situation that could have easily led to a major tragedy.
The Sokcho Coast Guard presented Jeong with a certificate of appreciation that day.
This decision was made in recognition of how Jeong independently recognized the accident without any special request and stepped up to rescue and save a precious life.
Jeong stated, "I am grateful to receive this certificate of appreciation for simply doing what anyone should do, and I will continue to actively help anyone in need of assistance at sea."
