▲ US Ambassador to South Korea Michelle Steel visits the National Cemetery
US Ambassador to South Korea Michelle Steel announced today (August 10) that she visited the Seoul National Cemetery alongside US Forces Korea Commander Gen. Xavier Brunson.
Ambassador Steel wrote on her X (formerly Twitter) account that day, "It was an honor to lay a wreath at the National Cemetery with Commander Brunson to pay tribute to the dedication and sacrifice of Korean War veterans."
She went on to emphasize, "That noble sacrifice continues to remain at the core of our steadfastly sustained alliance."
The cemetery visit was also accompanied by her husband, attorney Shawn Steel, who has drawn attention by accompanying the Ambassador to major schedules since her assumption of office.
According to the embassy, Ambassador Steel also met with Commander Brunson on the 5th.
In an X post uploaded on the 6th, she stated, "Yesterday, I had a meaningful conversation with Commander Brunson regarding our shared mission to safeguard peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula," adding, "We will work closely together to further strengthen the combined defense posture and the ironclad ROK-US alliance."
Ambassador Steel took up her post in South Korea on July 30, and submitted a copy of her credentials to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs while paying a courtesy call on Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Hyun on the 4th.
Right after her arrival, she also highlighted her ties with South Korea by sharing footage of her visits to Gwanghwamun and Namdaemun Market.
