As the record-breaking extreme heatwave eases, weather forecasts indicate that temperatures in Seoul will drop to 19°C (66°F) in the early hours of Wednesday, the 12th.
According to an analysis of the temperature forecast model layer on the global weather visualization app Windy, temperatures across Seoul are projected to hit 19°C (66°F) as of 5:00 AM on the 12th.
The released weather map data shows the mid-north region of the Korean Peninsula covered in green, representing lower temperature zones.
Looking at expected temperatures for major regions at the same time, most areas across the peninsula, including Seoul, are forecast to stay in the mid-to-high 10°C (50°F) range.
The cause of this weather change lies in shifts in the pressure system rather than seasonal solar terms.
Last week, the high-altitude Tibetan High and the low-altitude North Pacific High overlapped over the Korean Peninsula, forming a double heat dome structure that trapped hot air.
However, starting from the weekend, the connection between the two high-pressure systems weakened, unravelling the structure that had driven temperatures to extremes.
The direct influence of the North Pacific High has also weakened, while easterly winds and clouds have moved in, reducing ground heating from sunlight.
The Korea Meteorological Administration had previously analyzed that the linkage between the upper-level and mid-to-lower-level high-pressure systems would weaken around the 8th and 9th.
However, this does not mean the heatwave is over.
Heatwave warnings remain in effect for Seoul and many other regions across the country, and the maximum perceived temperature will continue to rise to around 33°C (91°F) for the time being.
The heat is likely to flare up again next week.
Morning temperatures from the 14th to the 20th will range from 23°C to 26°C (73°F to 79°F), and daytime temperatures will range from 28°C to 35°C (82°F to 95°F), higher than normal years.
In particular, starting from the 15th, daytime highs are expected to climb back up to 35°C (95°F).
