The Korean Sport & Olympic Committee visited the site of the national high school baseball tournament, which is being held amid nationwide heatwaves, to inspect safety management measures for the athletes.
The Korean Sport & Olympic Committee announced today (August 10) that President Yoo Seung-min visited the Mokdong Baseball Stadium in Seoul, where the 54th Phoenix Flag National High School Baseball Tournament is taking place, to check heatwave response measures and encourage participating athletes.
The tournament, which opened on the 7th, has been scheduling matches to avoid the hottest midday hours in order to prevent heat-related illnesses and protect the players' performance.
The schedule has been adjusted by moving the morning games from 9:00 AM to 8:30 AM and delaying the 5:00 PM games to 6:00 PM.
Visiting the site before today's games, President Yoo received a briefing on safety measures for tournament operations from officials of the Korea Baseball Softball Association—including the operation of cooling breaks based on apparent temperature criteria, installation of portable air conditioners in dugouts, emergency medical systems, and strengthened on-site safety management—and inspected the facilities.
He then directly visited the dugouts of Gwangju Jeil High School and Hwaseong Dongtan BC, whose teams were preparing for their matches, and delivered prepared refreshments.
President Yoo urged tournament officials, "As the tournament is being held under extreme heatwaves, please pay special attention to the safety and health management of the players."
He also encouraged the athletes, saying, "I hope you stay well-hydrated and manage your health carefully," adding, "I support your passion, which is as hot as the weather."
