Gyeonggi Provincial Superintendent of Education Ahn Min-seok is filing a criminal complaint against a parent involved in malicious complaints at Bucheon Ojeong Elementary School, which has been designated as the Education Rights Protection Team's "Case No. 1."
This marks the first instance of a parent being criminally reported for infringing upon educational activities since Superintendent Ahn took office.
During a press conference held today (August 10) at the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education Southern Complex, Superintendent Ahn stated, "Regarding the grave violation of educational activities at Ojeong Elementary School, I will visit the Bucheon Ojeong Police Station in person today to submit a criminal complaint under the name of the superintendent."
A teacher at Ojeong Elementary School reportedly faced complaints from a parent after intervening in a dispute between children.
The parent in question staged a picket protest in front of the school. Although the Education Rights Protection Committee recognized the parent's actions as a violation of educational activities, it was found that the teacher had been subjected to criminal charges and a civil lawsuit for child abuse filed by the parent.
After forming the provincial office's Education Rights Protection Team and taking on the role of leader himself, Superintendent Ahn designated this incident as "Case No. 1," meeting with school officials and the affected teacher to review countermeasures.
Superintendent Ahn noted, "Although the parent offered to apologize to the teacher and withdraw the lawsuit filed against them, after deep deliberation taking into account the perspectives of the teacher and the school, I decided to proceed with the complaint." He added, "This complaint demonstrates the superintendent's firm resolve that actions shaking schools and threatening teachers will not be tolerated."
He went on to emphasize, "We can no longer leave unattended the reality where legitimate educational activities collapse in the face of malicious complaints and threats, and a teacher's dedication is met instead with reports and lawsuits. We will respond strictly in accordance with the law and principles against acts that seriously infringe upon the safety and dignity of educators."
