A massive dust storm swept through Sonora, Mexico, instantly enveloping the entire city in yellowish-brown dust. Even though it was daytime, a towering wall of dust swallowed the city, reducing visibility to almost zero. Strong winds turned a hotel lobby into chaos, and airplanes were captured shaking violently.
In particular, dust storms struck twice on July 14 and 27, with gusts reaching up to 150 km/h lifting sand and dust all at once, compounding the damage.
The strong winds knocked down trees, utility poles, and signboards, causing power outages. Accompanied by heavy rain, flooding also occurred in various places. Experts analyzed that the intensity of this dust storm grew as strong downdrafts caused by a microburst lifted sand and dust from the desert.
