▲ A teenager who allegedly killed his mother following an argument arrives at the Incheon District Court on the afternoon of August 9 for a pre-trial detention hearing (warrant substantive examination).
It has been revealed that a teenager who killed his mother following an argument also killed the family's pet dog after the crime.
The Incheon Samsan Police Station arrested an 18-year-old male surnamed A on August 9 on charges of patricide/matricide (filicide) and violation of the Animal Protection Act.
Lee Dong-ho, the duty judge at the Incheon District Court, issued the arrest warrant after conducting a pre-trial detention hearing for A that afternoon, stating that "there is a concern of flight and unavoidable grounds to detain him as a minor."
Earlier, upon arriving at the court for the hearing, A remained silent and looked around nervously when reporters asked, "Why did you argue?" and "Aren't you sorry to your mother?"
He also kept silent in response to questions such as, "What kind of conflicts were there?" and "Why did you report yourself to the police?"
A is suspected of stabbing his mother in her 40s, surnamed B, multiple times with a weapon inside their apartment in Samsan-dong, Bupyeong-gu, Incheon, at around 8:30 PM on August 7 during an argument.
He is also accused of strangling their pet dog to death after committing the crime.
B was transported to a hospital by emergency 119 paramedics but died, and A reportedly turned himself in to the authorities after the crime.
A had dropped out of high school, was currently unemployed, and had previously received psychiatric treatment.
A's father and younger sibling were reportedly not at home at the time of the crime.
Police are investigating the exact circumstances, believing A committed the crime during an argument with B, while having requested an autopsy on B's body from the National Forensic Service.
It was found that police had previously been dispatched to the scene one or two times following reports of arguments between A and B, though no one was booked at those times.
