Teenager Arrested for Killing Mother and Family Pet

A teenager arrested on charges of murdering his mother with a weapon following an argument has been taken into custody. It was also revealed that he killed the family dog he was raising at home.

The 18-year-old, surnamed A, was arrested on charges of attacking and killing his mother in her 40s with a weapon at an apartment in Bupyeong-gu, Incheon, at around 8:30 p.m. on Friday, August 7.

After committing the crime while other family members were away, A reported himself to the police. During the investigation, he reportedly stated that he killed his mother with a weapon after getting into an argument with her.

It was also found that he killed the family dog he was raising at home. The court issued an arrest warrant for A, citing concerns that he might flee and compelling reasons requiring the detention of a minor.

Following supplementary investigations, the police plan to transfer A to the prosecutors' office on charges including patricide.

A fire broke out at an apartment building located in Ora-dong, Jeju City, at around 1:40 p.m. today, and was extinguished in about 20 minutes.

An 80-year-old man died after being pinned under a cultivator in Haenam-gun, South Jeolla Province, at around 1:10 p.m. today.

Police believe that the man, who left home around noon stating he was going to do farm work, met his demise on a slope while driving the cultivator.
