Sequential terrorist attacks have occurred just a day after the inauguration of right-wing Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriella, leaving one person dead and two others injured.
According to the Associated Press and local daily El Espectador on the 8th (local time), a car bomb explosion occurred at around 2 a.m. that day at a toll plaza in Mondomo, Cauca Department, in southwestern Colombia, injuring two security guards and damaging nearby houses.
Military authorities suspect the attack was carried out by a dissident faction of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) that has rejected peace agreements, and are expanding their investigation.
Additionally, at around midnight on the same day, a terrorist attack utilizing drones and explosives was launched against the San Roque police station in Cesar Department, killing one police officer.
President de la Espriella emphasized, "Attacks on national infrastructure are acts that threaten public safety," adding, "There will be no leniency for criminal organizations, and we will mobilize all public security forces to combat them."
Previously, during his inaugural address on the 7th, he also stressed that he would root out criminal organizations such as drug cartels.
