Late last night (August 8), a fire broke out at a steel manufacturing plant in Saha-gu, Busan. While the major flames were brought under control after five hours, it is taking time to fully extinguish the residual fire as flames spread to scrap metal.

Fire engines line the area around the factory as smoke leaks out, and firefighters spray water with hoses to put out the fire clinging to scrap metal.
The fire broke out at around 6:50 p.m. yesterday at a steel manufacturing plant in Gupyeong-dong, Saha-gu, Busan.
Fire authorities issued a Level 1 response at around 7:30 p.m., mobilizing all available personnel and equipment from the regional fire station, and declared the initial knockdown of the major flames at around 12:52 a.m. early this morning.
Emergency text messages were sent out advising residents to refrain from going outside due to a potential hazardous chemical leak, but no casualties have been reported so far.
Fire authorities believe the fire started in the steel storage warehouse and plan to investigate the exact cause once firefighting operations are fully completed.

At around 6:50 p.m. yesterday, a fire broke out in an SUV on the Olympic Expressway near the southern end of the Godeok Topyeong Bridge in Gangdong-gu, Seoul.
One person, believed to be the driver of the vehicle, evacuated safely on their own, and no injuries were reported.
The fire was put out in 30 minutes, but part of the road was temporarily restricted during the accident cleanup, causing traffic congestion.
