Armed with a height of over 180 cm and exceptional athletic ability, Sohn led South Korea to victory at the U-16 Asian Women's Volleyball Championship last year, where she was named tournament MVP. In her world stage debut, she put on an overwhelming performance worthy of the "Little Kim Yeon-koung" moniker.
In the first match against Puerto Rico, she hammered high-point spikes into the opponent's court at will, and her diving defense was also top-notch.
After grabbing the first two sets thanks to Sohn's stellar play, scoring 6 points in the first set and 8 points in the second, our team allowed Puerto Rico to counterattack by dropping the third set. However, Sohn's strength closed out the match in the fourth set.
As she hammered powerful spikes into the opponent's court alongside service aces that induced opponent errors, Sohn's name echoed throughout the stadium.
[Seo-yeon! Seo-yeon!]
Sohn secured a 3-1 victory for the team with the final block, sharing the joy with her teammates, and soared to the top of the scoring leaderboard with 28 points.
[Sohn Seo-yeon (Last year) : (At the World Championship), we're going out to a broader stage to meet more teams. Rather than taking it easy, I will prepare harder to achieve a high ranking and produce great results.]
Sohn and our national team will aim for their second consecutive win tomorrow (the 8th) against Chinese Taipei, whom they defeated in the final of the Asian Championship.
