The second-place professional baseball team Samsung Lions has made a replacement for its Asian quota player.
Samsung announced today (August 7) that it has requested waivers from the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) for its existing Asian quota pitcher Miyaji Yura (Japan) and signed Japanese pitcher Satoshi Miyamori for the remainder of the season for a total of 73,000 dollars, including a transfer fee.
Right-handed pitcher Miyamori joined the Nippon Professional Baseball team Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles in 2022, and through 2025, he recorded 2 wins, 3 losses, 10 holds, 1 save, and a 5.10 ERA in 69 games in the first team.
This year, playing for the Oisix Niigata Albirex in the NPB farm league, he made 17 appearances with a record of 5 wins, 5 losses, and a 4.36 ERA.
Miyamori stated, "I am glad to play for a team that is fiercely competing for the championship," adding, "I will do my best no matter what role I am assigned."
The outgoing Asian quota player Miyaji will leave the Korean stage after posting 1 loss, 3 holds, and a 5.87 ERA in 36 games this season.
Samsung, aiming for the 2026 Korea Series championship, has acquired three foreign pitchers over the past month.
Samsung did not renew its contract with Jack O'Loughlin, who played as an injury replacement for foreign player Matt Manning last month, and instead signed Major League Baseball (MLB) veteran Chris Paddack.
Additionally, the team signed right-hander Austin Boss as a temporary replacement foreign pitcher for Ariel Jurado, who was sidelined due to an injury.
