Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei, who has not made a single public appearance since taking office, is in critical condition and has had no contact with cabinet officials, the Iranian dissident media outlet IranWire reported on the 7th local time.
Citing multiple anonymous sources well-versed in the administration of Masoud Pezeshkian, the outlet reported that Mojtaba Khamenei's condition is extremely critical.
The sources claimed that rumors are widespread among the top tiers of the Iranian regime that Mojtaba Khamenei is currently in such critical condition that his death at any moment would not come as a surprise.
One source stated, "It would not be surprising at all if news of his martyrdom is heard anytime soon."
Mojtaba Khamenei was reportedly injured during the late February US and Israeli airstrikes that killed his father and former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
He subsequently succeeded to the position of Supreme Leader, but has never once appeared before the public.
He was not even seen at his father's funeral held last month.
Previously, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian mentioned in an interview broadcast on state TV on the 5th that "communication with the Supreme Leader is currently very difficult."
