Singer Byul shared the reason why she decided to sponsor as many children as the number of family members she has through Compassion.
During an interview with the international child sponsorship organization Compassion, Byul shared that regular sponsorship was a first for her with Compassion. She mentioned that she was deeply moved by a story of sponsoring children after accidentally watching an episode featuring Baek Z Young on a program at home.
She continued, "As a mother raising children myself, my heart was moved greatly. That very day, I went onto the Compassion website and signed up to sponsor five children to match the number of members in our family. I wanted to share our family's happiness with those five children as well." She added, "It hasn't been long since I started the sponsorship, but I am feeling great joy."
Byul married singer and entertainer HAHA in 2012, and the couple has three children. After maintaining a sibling-like relationship for over a decade, the two developed into a romantic relationship sparked by a text message HAHA sent to Byul saying, "We are at an age where we should get married now."
Byul revealed, "On the way back from visiting my father who had been battling an illness for a long time, HAHA said, 'It is an honor to enter this family.' That single remark provided great comfort by understanding the time our family had endured, and at that moment, I decided to get married."
The interview video, which contains various stories ranging from Byul's debut and marriage to her sponsorship, can be viewed on the official Korea Compassion YouTube channel.
