The People Power Party (PPP) Central Ethics Committee announced today (August 7) that it will initiate disciplinary procedures against Representatives Seo Bum-soo and Jin Jong-oh.
The PPP Ethics Committee held a meeting this morning and decided to launch disciplinary procedures against the two lawmakers over inappropriate remarks made during a parliamentary seminar regarding crime victims held on the 4th.
The two lawmakers came under fire after attending a parliamentary seminar titled "Prohibition of Supplementary Investigation, the Gates of Hell Have Opened," hosted by independent Representative Han Dong-hoon on the 4th.
Before the victim of the so-called "Busan roundhouse kick incident" attended the seminar, Representative Seo remarked, "Representative Jin Jong-oh, let's do a roundhouse kick."
As the controversy grew, Representative Seo and Representative Jin expressed their sincere apologies to the roundhouse kick victim, and party leader Jang Dong-hyeok and floor leader Jung Jum-sik also subsequently apologized.
The ethics committee stated that it has decided to send written questionnaires to conduct fact-finding investigations regarding party members Jin Jong-oh, Cho Kyung-tae, and Kwon Young-jin, against whom disciplinary procedures were initiated at the 16th meeting.
The ethics committee had planned to conduct today's meeting under a seven-member system, including two recently appointed members.
However, as Vice Chairman Woo Jong-hwan and committee member Hwang Kyung-sung expressed their intentions to resign, the meeting was once again held under a five-member system.
