As global girl group BLACKPINK celebrates their 10th debut anniversary, a growing sense of disappointment is spreading among fans due to the lack of opportunities to communicate with the supporters who have cheered them on for a long time.
YG Entertainment, which supports BLACKPINK's group activities, announced two days ago on August 6 that BLACKPINK would hold a gathering with 40 fans in a location in Seoul on August 8 to mark their 10th debut anniversary.
The notice included the phrase, "We ask for the active participation of BLINKs who want to share precious memories with BLACKPINK," along with an overview of the event. The number of participants was limited to 40, and the application period lasted for only nine hours, from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. on August 6. Eligibility to apply was restricted to those subscribed to the paid BLACKPINK Weverse Membership as of July 31, while digital membership subscribers were unable to apply.
Furthermore, the notice included a caveat stating, "This event will be attended by only some BLACKPINK members (those whose schedules permit)."
Surrounding the circumstances of the rushed preparation period and the limited number of participants, reactions within the fandom pointed out a lack of sincerity for such a meaningful milestone as a 10th anniversary. In some corners, speculative posts spread pointing to Rosé as the member who would be absent.
In response, Rosé's agency, THEBLACKLABEL, released a separate statement. THEBLACKLABEL stated, "Regarding the artist's personal schedule and participation status in the debut anniversary event, content contrary to the facts and unconfirmed speculations are spreading." They added, "The artist has prioritized this schedule and secured and confirmed all arrangements in advance from long ago in order to share this meaningful moment with fans," while urging people to refrain from reckless criticism based on unilateral speculation without verified facts.
Later, through some media outlets, it was revealed that the actual member absent from the 10th-anniversary fan meeting is Lisa. Recently, Lisa was reported by local media to be staying in Thailand, spending ordinary days with her family, drawing attention. With some members absent and attendance restricted to a small-scale event capped at 40 people, fans have expressed disappointment, saying that the purpose and significance of BLACKPINK's 10th anniversary have been overshadowed.
