▲ The Songdo apartment where the exterior terrace fell
An exterior terrace has collapsed at a newly built apartment complex in the Songdo International Business District of Incheon, which is in its second year since completion.
According to the management office of the apartment complex in Songdo International Business District, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, on August 7, an exterior terrace structure on the second floor of one of the apartment buildings fell to the ground at 6:02 a.m. today.
The unit to which the terrace belonged had been sold but was currently vacant with no residents yet moved in, and fortunately, there were no casualties.
The apartment was completed in February last year and began move-ins in March of the same year, according to records.
The accident occurred just one year and six months after completion.
Expressing concerns over potential additional safety risks, the tenant representative council is discussing recovery measures and other plans with the construction company's defect repair team.
An official from the apartment management office said, "Terraces are located from the second to the fifth floors in that building, and the terrace of one of those units fell," adding, "We have installed safety fences to block access, and the construction company is comprehensively reviewing structural and architectural drawings."
