The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced that Nam Yeong-jun, professor emeritus at Chung-Ang University, has been appointed as the new director of the National Library of Korea.
The new director's term is two years, lasting until August 2028.
The newly appointed Director Nam is an authority in the field of library and information science who has dedicated himself to education and research for some 30 years while serving as a professor at Jeonju University and Chung-Ang University.
He has also been actively engaged in library fieldwork and policy, having served as the president of the Korean Library Association, a member of the Committee on Library and Information Policy under the President, and the chairperson of the National Information Disclosure Committee.
Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Choi Hui-young stated, "The new director is the right person equipped with academic depth, an understanding of the library field, and policy capabilities." The minister added, "Please strengthen the role of the National Library of Korea as a representative of the nation's intellect in the era of digital transformation, and lead the innovation and future development of South Korea's library services."
