A toxic chemical substance, hydrazine, leaked at the Korea Electronics Technology Institute in Yatap-dong, Bundang-gu, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do around 4:30 PM today (August 6).
Due to the accident, about 300 people, including employees inside the laboratory building, evacuated. No casualties have been reported so far.
Hydrazine is a highly toxic chemical used as rocket and spacecraft propellant fuel.
The amount of leaked hydrazine is estimated to be about 200 ml.
Firefighters dispatched to the scene following a report from an official stating that "hazardous materials have leaked" entered the accident laboratory wearing chemical protective suits and opened windows to ventilate the area.
They also used absorbent pads to clean up the spilled hydrazine.
Police and fire authorities believe the accident occurred while moving a box containing glass bottles of hydrazine solution, and they are currently investigating the exact cause of the incident.
