South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) announced that North Korea fired an unidentified projectile toward the East Sea today (August 6).

The JCS is currently analyzing the specifications and range of the North Korean projectile.

If the projectile is confirmed to be a ballistic missile, it will mark the first launch in 42 days.

Previously, on June 25, North Korea conducted test firings of tactical weapons targeting South Korea, including tactical ballistic missiles, extended-range 155mm self-propelled artillery shells, and a newly updated 240mm 24-barrel multiple rocket launcher, under the observation of leader Kim Jong Un.

Additionally, on July 3, North Korea test-fired strategic cruise missiles launched from its new 5,000-ton destroyer, the Kang Gon.
