As heat wave warnings have remained in effect across all of Gyeonggi Province for 14 consecutive days as of yesterday (August 5), the number of daily heat-related illness patients surpassed 60, pushing the cumulative total beyond 500.
According to Gyeonggi Province, a total of 537 heat-related illness patients (including 2 deaths) have been reported across the province from May 15, when statistics on heat illnesses began, through August 4.
In particular, 67 people sought treatment at emergency rooms for heat illnesses on August 4 alone, marking the highest single-day figure.
The number of heat illness patients is tallied based on reports from 93 medical institutions in the province operating emergency rooms.
Heat wave warnings have been in effect for all 31 cities and counties in the Gyeonggi region since July 23. Yesterday, a serious heat wave alert was issued for 18 cities and counties, while a heat wave warning was issued for 13 cities and counties, respectively.
Tropical night advisories have also been issued for all cities and counties.
