The Korea Road Traffic Authority has urged drivers and passengers to exercise extreme caution, revealing that the interior surface temperature of a vehicle parked outdoors for an extended period under scorching heat soared up to 85.5°C (186°F).
According to measurements taken by the authority after parking a car outdoors for about four hours on the 5th in an environment with an air temperature of 34°C (93°F), the dashboard temperature of a black vehicle reached a maximum of 85.5°C (186°F).
The dashboard of a white vehicle also rose up to 73.7°C (165°F), showing a difference of about 12 degrees depending on the vehicle's color.
The driver's seat of the black vehicle recorded a maximum of 62.1°C (144°F), while the driver's seat of the white vehicle reached a maximum of 60.4°C (141°F).
The authority explained that because the inside of a vehicle heats up rapidly in a short period, sufficient ventilation and cooling are necessary before boarding.
It also emphasized that leaving children or pets alone inside a vehicle can rapidly raise the interior temperature even in a short time, threatening their lives, and urged drivers to always take them out of the vehicle during heatwave periods.
