It has been revealed that a 52-year-old man surnamed Na, who is accused of murdering a woman in her 50s at an officetel in Suyu-dong, Gangbuk-gu, Seoul, has a record of 15 sexual violence crimes targeting children and adolescents under the age of 13.
It was confirmed that Na had also been ordered to wear a location-tracking electronic device.
Previously, in December 2014, the Chuncheon District Court ordered Na to wear a location-tracking electronic device for five years, stating, "He has as many as 15 records of sexual violence crimes against victims under the age of 13."
Na was first put on trial in 1992, shortly after reaching adulthood, for a sexual violence crime targeting a child under the age of 13.
At the time, the court ruled, "Given that he has committed multiple sex crimes against both male and female minors, there is suspicion that he harbors a deviant sexual interest in children."
Furthermore, noting that his risk of reoffending fell into the "high" category on the sexual offender risk assessment scale, the court concluded, "There is a risk that he will commit sexual violence crimes again."
Na, who was sentenced to five years in prison, appealed, claiming the punishment was "harsh and unfair," but his appeal was dismissed in the second trial.
Following his release from prison, Na was also sentenced to a fine of 40 million won for violating the terms of his location-tracking electronic device attachment.
In 2019, Na was also put on trial on charges of receiving and storing 253 pornographic videos featuring female youths, for which he received a sentence of 10 months in prison suspended for two years.
After returning to society following multiple sex crimes, Na was urgently arrested by police on charges of swinging a weapon and killing a woman in her 50s whom he knew at an officetel in Suyu-dong, Gangbuk-gu, Seoul, on the 28th of last month.
A preliminary drug screening test showed positive results for substances including philopon and marijuana.
Na was placed under arrest on the 30th of last month.
The police are continuing further investigations, including conducting a search and seizure at Na's residence the following day.
