Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix have stated that they are preparing and planning to unveil measures to expand shareholder returns, Reuters reported on the 5th (local time).
According to the report, Samsung Electronics said in a statement sent to Reuters, "While we remain focused on maintaining a sound financial structure to manage cyclical risks and fund growth initiatives, we are also exploring ways to expand shareholder returns in a sustainable manner."
SK Hynix also said in a separate statement to Reuters that it is currently drawing up specific shareholder return plans by the end of the year and expects "to expand shareholder returns to a meaningful level."
SK Hynix added, "Based on our record-high cash-generating capability, we believe we can expand shareholder returns to a meaningful level while maintaining investments and financial soundness," and noted that it is "reviewing various options for additional shareholder returns."
Previously, Samsung Electronics announced during its second-quarter earnings release on the 30th of last month, "Our board of directors and management are currently actively discussing specific implementation plans for this year's shareholder return policy, including special dividends, as well as the next shareholder return policy."
SK Hynix has also previously stated that it is reviewing various methods of additional shareholder returns.
Samsung Electronics previously announced that its operating profit for the second quarter of this year reached 89.4924 trillion won, a 1,813.8% increase compared to the same period last year.
SK Hynix also previously announced that its operating profit for the second quarter of this year reached 60.5426 trillion won, up 557.2% from the same period last year.
