Baichae High School Imposes Heavy Disciplinary Action on Two Students Over May 18 Derogatory Cheering

Disciplinary actions have been taken at the school level against members of the Baejae High School baseball team who chanted derogatory cheering slogans mocking the May 18 Gwangju Democratization Movement during a baseball game against Gwangju Jeil High School.

According to the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, Baejae High School imposed heavy disciplinary action on two students who led the chants of "Let's go to Starbucks" and "Tank Day," while light disciplinary action was given to 10 students who joined in and repeated the chants.

However, the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education withheld the specific levels of disciplinary action, citing concerns over the exposure of individual students' identities.
