The Ministry of Health and Welfare announced that it has designated 6,363 hub senior centers nationwide in cooperation with local governments to help senior citizens escape the heat.

Out of the 69,687 senior centers operating across the country, these hub facilities account for approximately 9%.

While senior centers typically open from 9 AM to 6 PM on weekdays, the designated hub centers will extend their operating hours until 9 PM every day, including weekends and public holidays, through the end of September.

The Ministry plans to inform seniors about the operating hours and usage guidelines for the hub senior centers through relevant ministries, local governments, and the Korean Senior Citizens Association so they can easily access the facilities.

The Ministry also plans to conduct periodic inspections of air conditioning operations and general facility management.
