▲ Kim Seung-dae's Retirement Ceremony to Be Held
Professional football club Pohang Steelers announced on August 5 that they will hold a retirement ceremony for "Line Breaker" Kim Seung-dae (35) during their Hana Bank K League 1 2026 Round 22 home match against Ulsan HD on August 8.
Pohang explained, "Taking inspiration from Kim Seung-dae's nickname 'Line Breaker,' we chose 'BEYOND THE LINE' as the theme for the retirement ceremony," adding, "It carries the meaning of supporting Kim Seung-dae as he crosses the line as a player to face a new beginning."
Born in Pohang in April 1991, Kim is a homegrown "pure-blood" youth product who graduated from Pohang Jecheol Dong Elementary School, Pohang Jecheol Middle School, and Pohang Jecheol High School. After attending Yeungnam University, he made his K League debut wearing the Pohang Steelers uniform in 2013.
Kim transferred to Jeonbuk Hyundai in 2019, wore the Gangwon FC uniform the following year, returned to Jeonbuk in 2021, and came back to Pohang in 2022 to play until 2024 before moving to Daejeon Hana Citizen in 2025 to conclude his active playing career.
Known as the "Line Breaker" for his exquisite penetration skills that beat offside traps, Kim made 300 appearances in K League 1, recording 48 goals and 50 assists, and became the 22nd player in K League history to join the "40-40 Club."
While playing for Pohang, he recorded 43 goals and 39 assists in 216 matches, playing a key role in winning the 2013 K League 1 title and the 2013 and 2023 FA Cups (now the Korea Cup).
Kim's retirement ceremony will take place during halftime of the match against Ulsan.
The retirement ceremony will feature a tribute video highlighting his career, a reading of his retirement speech, and a commemorative photo session. Kim also plans to gift 1,200 beverages to fans, symbolizing his jersey number 12.
