Veterinary clinics have been caught for delaying reports or poorly managing records after prescribing medical narcotics, including propofol.
The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety announced that it inspected the handling practices of medical narcotics at 46 veterinary clinics deemed highly likely to have violations based on big data analysis, confirming violations at 28 of them.
Major violations included delayed reporting and inadequate recording in prescriptions or medical charts.
One veterinary clinic delayed reporting the use of 227 medical narcotics cases, including propofol, since last year.
Some usage details were reported about six months late.
Concerns have been raised that because veterinary clinics are not obligated to verify the information of pet owners or managers when administering medical narcotics to animals, these substances could be illegally leaked or poorly managed.
