A witness report was received at 5:35 a.m. today (August 5) stating that a Korando Sports vehicle had fallen into a drainage ditch near a road in Sinnam-ri, Namyang-eup, Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi Province.
The driver, a person in their 70s identified as A, was found dead inside the vehicle.
The drainage ditch was found to be 3 to 4 meters deep.
Police investigations showed that A, a forklift driver, suffered the accident while returning home to Suwon at the time.
Based on factors such as A calling family members at 8 p.m. the previous day, police are investigating the specific time and circumstances of the accident.
A police official stated, "Since there is no dashcam in the accident vehicle and no CCTV at that specific location, further investigation is needed to determine why and when the accident occurred," adding, "At this point, we are presuming it was a single-vehicle accident."
