Hervé Renard (57, France), who had been consistently mentioned as a candidate for the South Korea national football team manager position over the past several years, is returning to take the helm of the Ivory Coast national team after about a decade.
Major foreign media reported that the Ivorian Football Federation has appointed Renard as the head coach of the national team.
Under the guidance of manager Emerse Faé, Ivory Coast advanced to the knockout stage of the 2026 North and Central America World Cup for the first time in history, but their tournament run ended with a 1 to 2 defeat against Norway in the Round of 32.
Despite leading Ivory Coast to victory at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Faé failed to secure a contract extension following the World Cup.
During the North and Central America World Cup, Renard served as a firefighting coach for the Tunisia national team.
After Tunisia suffered a heavy 1 to 5 defeat to Sweden in their opening group stage match, the team promptly replaced their manager and handed the reins to Renard.
However, Renard also failed to turn the team's atmosphere around, and Tunisia suffered consecutive losses to Japan and the Netherlands, being eliminated with three losses in three matches.
Renard has previously served as the head coach of the Zambia, Angola, Morocco, Zambia again, and Saudi Arabia national teams.
He also led the French women's national team at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Between 2014 and 2015, he managed the Ivory Coast national team and led them to victory at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.
Renard is a well-known figure to South Korean fans as well, having been named as a candidate for the South Korea national team manager position during the appointment processes for former managers Paulo Bento and Hong Myung-bo.
