The professional baseball games scheduled to take place at 6:30 PM today (August 4) between the NC Dinos and the Doosan Bears at Jamsil Baseball Stadium in Seoul, and the kt wiz and the KIA Tigers at Gwangju-KIA Champions Field, have been canceled due to a severe heatwave.
Following the Korea Meteorological Administration's issuance of a heavy heatwave critical warning for Seoul and Gwangju, the KBO office made the decision to cancel the matches at 12:45 PM in accordance with its detailed, phased criteria for operating games during heatwaves.
Under KBO bylaws, when a heavy heatwave critical warning is issued—which goes into effect when the daily highest perceived temperature is expected to reach 38°C (100°F) or higher, or the daily highest actual temperature 39°C (102°F) or higher—the organization is authorized to decide on game cancellations by 1 PM on the day of the match.
The KBO stated that whenever a heavy heatwave critical warning is in effect, games will be canceled with player and spectator safety as the top priority.
