A woman in her 60s living with her mother-in-law has been arrested by police following a report from a family member.
The Seongnam Jungwon Police Station in Gyeonggi Province announced today (August 4) that it is investigating woman A on murder charges.
A is suspected of fatally stabbing her mother-in-law in her 80s, B, with a weapon at a villa in Seongnam on the afternoon of August 3.
Several hours after the incident, at 8:30 PM, A was arrested at the scene as her crime was reported by another family member living in the same building, prompting police to dispatch officers.
Police believe that A, who suffers from mental illness, had been experiencing conflicts for a long time while living together with B, who has dementia, leading up to the crime, and are currently investigating the exact circumstances.
Additionally, as it has been confirmed that the two were mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, police plan to modify the charge to parricide and apply for an arrest warrant.
