Go Woo-suk's Suspension for Alleged Foreign Substance on Glove Reduced from 10 to 8 Games

The suspension for Go Woo-suk, who was ejected from a game over suspicions of applying a foreign substance to his glove, has been reduced from 10 games to 8 games.

Rico Sports Agency, Go's agency, announced that following an appeal, Major League Baseball (MLB) headquarters reduced his suspension by two games.

As a result, Go, who plays for the St. Paul Saints, Triple-A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins, will be eligible to return to action starting on the 5th of this month, Korean time.

During a game against the Columbus Clippers (affiliate of the Cleveland Guardians) on the 25th of last month, Go was subjected to a glove inspection by the umpiring crew just before taking the mound for the 7th inning.

Upon finding a foreign substance on the glove, the umpires ejected Go, and two days later, the MLB office handed down a 10-game suspension.

MLB strictly prohibits the use of foreign substances that can affect factors such as spin rate when throwing a ball.

Go immediately took to social media to emphasize his innocence, stating, "The substance in question on the glove accumulated after sweat and rosin repeatedly mixed and hardened on the leather since early this year," and adding, "I have never once thought about competing through unfair means in my life." He also announced his intention to file an appeal through the Players Association.

Through the appeal process, Go's suspension was reduced to 8 games.

Rico Sports Agency noted the significance of the decision, stating, "This is the first time that a pitcher who was ejected and disciplined since MLB strengthened its crackdown on the use of foreign substances on gloves has had their suspension reduced through an appeal."

After moving to the United States in 2024 and spending a long period bouncing around the minor leagues, Go donned the Minnesota uniform and made his big league debut against Cleveland on the 10th of last month.

Go was optioned back to the minor leagues after allowing 3 runs in 1 inning during a game against Cleveland on the 21st of last month, recording 1 hold and a 9.00 ERA across 4 big league appearances.
