▲ Footage of 'Tongyeong Murderer' with KRW 100 Million Bounty Released
Today (August 3), marking the 55th day since a woman in her 60s was found murdered in Tongyeong, South Gyeongsang Province, the South Gyeongsang Provincial Police Agency announced that it has confirmed physical characteristics of the murder suspect.
Following procedures to minimize errors in surrounding closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, the police explained that the suspect has been identified as "a male with a height of around 175 cm and an average build."
They added that since releasing CCTV footage related to the case on July 27, a total of 116 tips had been received as of 8:00 PM yesterday (August 2).
The police are tracking down the suspect while verifying the facts of these tips and assessing their credibility.
On June 10 at 6:34 AM, a woman in her 60s, surnamed A, was found murdered by her family at a home in Dosan-myeon, Tongyeong.
Police confirmed via CCTV that the suspect broke into A's home at 0:20 AM on the same day, but it has been difficult to identify the suspect because he was wearing a hat, a mask, and gloves in the footage.
The suspect reportedly left the house at 2:20 AM carrying a bag and emergency reporting equipment.
Because the crime took place at night, securing clues to pinpoint the suspect from outdoor CCTV cameras around the house has reportedly proven difficult.
Conducting investigations such as questioning people around A and analyzing CCTV footage near the house, the police have also formed a dedicated team to pursue the suspect.
Previously on July 13, the police announced that they would award a reward to an informant who provides crucial clues regarding the "Tongyeong woman in her 60s murder case."
Regarding this case, the police previously stated that they could award up to KRW 100 million in accordance with the Regulations on Compensation for Contributors to Apprehending Criminals (National Police Agency Notice).
