Cha Eun-woo Files Tax Appeal After Paying 13 Billion Won in Taxes

Singer and actor Cha Eun-woo, who paid approximately 13 billion won in retroactive taxes, has filed a tax appeal with the Tax Tribunal to challenge the National Tax Service's taxation.

According to Fantagio, Cha Eun-woo filed a petition for a tax trial with the Tax Tribunal last month, claiming that the National Tax Service's imposition of approximately 13 billion won in income tax penalties was unjust.

Fantagio stated that Cha Eun-woo requested a tax trial through procedures stipulated by law to receive a legal judgment, and asked for understanding that it is difficult to disclose specific details as the procedure is currently ongoing.

A tax trial is a system where a taxpayer raises an objection to the Tax Tribunal if they believe that tax-related dispositions are unlawful or unjust.

A petition can be filed within 90 days from the date the taxpayer becomes aware of the tax notice or receives the tax bill.

Back in January, suspicions of tax evasion were raised against Cha Eun-woo following reports that he had been notified by the National Tax Service of income tax penalties exceeding 20 billion won.

In April, he stated that he respected the procedures and results of the National Tax Service and had paid all related taxes in full to prevent any further confusion.
