▲ The area around Haksanrin Park in Buk-gu, Pohang, Gyeongsangbuk-do, is quiet with no pedestrians on the 1st, as a severe heatwave warning is in effect.
The professional baseball games scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m. on the 1st between the Samsung Lions and the Lotte Giants (in Busan), and the KIA Tigers and the NC Dinos (in Changwon), have been canceled due to the heatwave.
According to KBO League regulations, a heatwave warning is issued when daily high temperatures of 35°C (95°F) or higher are expected to persist for two or more days. If a severe weather warning or higher—such as for strong winds, heatwaves, fog, fine dust, or yellow dust—is in effect based on the scheduled game start time, the KBO game operations committee member can decide to cancel the game.
The Korea Meteorological Administration has maintained the severe heatwave warning issued for the Changwon area at 11:00 a.m. on July 30.
The daytime high in Busan, where a heatwave warning has been issued, was forecasted to reach 39°C (102°F) today.
