North Korea denounced NATO's decision to reorganize its military fuel transport system as a "war preparation scheme" today, warning that it "will never tolerate NATO's dangerous and provocative actions and will deliver a resolute counterattack."
In a commentary released through the Korean Central News Agency today, Pyongyang criticized the NATO Fuel Supply Chain Capability Program, stating, "The wicked ulterior motive harbored by NATO is to stockpile sufficient war materials, including fuel, and ignite the flames of war at any moment and in any place around the world."
The North Atlantic Council, NATO's political decision-making body, approved the 27 billion euro NATO Fuel Supply Chain Capability Program on July 22, aiming to modernize the alliance's existing fuel storage and distribution infrastructure.
Citing foreign media analyses suggesting that NATO approved the plan to prepare for a potential war with Russia, the news agency argued, "This is not a matter to be viewed so simply."
It went on to mention the Korean Peninsula, stating, "In recent years, NATO has more frequently deployed the strategic assets of its member states into the Asia-Pacific region to project its military presence, and in collusion with our hostile states, it stages reckless war simulations around the Korean Peninsula at any given time."
Criticizing NATO member states for participating in the recently concluded Rim of the Pacific exercise, North Korea claimed, "This clearly shows that NATO never takes its eyes off the Asia-Pacific region as a theater of war."
The agency threatened, "Decades have passed since NATO morphed into a military bloc, but it is unprecedented for it to carry out war preparations so blatantly," adding that this "hastens the time of war and shortens the time of NATO's destruction."
