U.S. President Donald Trump once again expressed his firm resolve to carry out powerful airstrikes against Iran on the 31st (local time).
While stopping short of completely shutting the door on the possibility of a deal with Iran, he reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining military pressure, suggesting that military clashes between the two sides are likely to continue for the time being.
During a Cabinet meeting he presided over at Camp David, Maryland, on this day, President Trump said, "We'll hit them very hard," adding, "At some point, they'll say, 'We can't take this anymore.'"
He also stated, "Iran has been very dishonest and a very disgraceful partner to deal with," but noted, "That doesn't matter. Iran is in very bad shape."
"We just want to win," President Trump emphasized, adding, "Iran will not have a nuclear weapon, and they cannot have one."
The United States suspended its 13-day airstrikes against Iran that began on the 11th of this month on the 24th, but resumed combat operations on the 29th.
When asked by reporters whether a deal with Iran could be reached, President Trump answered, "Yes," but added, "I'm losing trust in them because they lie."
He further said, "Five missiles were launched a short time ago," adding, "We intercepted them, but we were negotiating at the time."
The remarks claim that Iran undermined its own credibility as a negotiating partner by firing missiles while talks with the U.S. were underway.
