A teenage male who wielded a weapon against a female high school student in a residential area of Hwagok-dong, Gangseo-gu, Seoul, has been handed over to prosecutors.
On July 31, the Seoul Gangseo Police Station announced that it had referred the teenage male, surnamed Hong, to prosecutors in custody on July 30 on charges of attempted murder and violation of the Stalking Punishment Act.
While investigating Hong on attempted murder charges, police uncovered circumstances indicating that he had been stalking the victim, prompting them to add charges under the Stalking Punishment Act.
Hong, a high school student, is accused of swinging a weapon at a teenage female in a multi-family housing area in Hwagok-dong at around 1:30 PM on July 23.
The victim, who suffered injuries to her abdomen, was transported to a hospital while conscious and received treatment. Hong and the victim are reportedly acquaintances.
Following a pre-trial detention hearing (warrant review) for Hong on July 25, the court issued an arrest warrant, citing risks of evidence destruction and flight.
