The previous record high was 41.0°C (105.8°F) recorded in Hongcheon, Gangwon-do, on August 1, 2018.
Today's temperature in Yangsan is 0.4°C (0.7°F) higher than that previous record.
Daytime temperatures in Yangsan have exceeded 40°C (104°F) for three consecutive days starting from the 29th.
Temperatures reached 40.3°C (104.5°F) on both the 29th and 30th, and rose even further today.
Experts analyze that while temperatures have risen nationwide as the North Pacific and Tibetan high-pressure systems blanket the upper and lower atmospheres of the Korean Peninsula, winds crossing mountain ranges via westerly flows have become hot and dry, driving up temperatures in the Gyeongsangnam-do region.
