People Power Party Floor Leader Chung Jeom-sik criticized the imminent passage of the Criminal Procedure Act amendment at the National Assembly plenary session—which centers on abolishing prosecutors' direct investigations, including supplementary investigations—as an unprecedented evil law that will go down in constitutional history as a disgrace.
During a floor strategy meeting on the 31st, Floor Leader Chung stated, "If this evil law passes, the vulnerable will be cast out from the protection of the law while those in power will escape its oversight," adding that this marks "the end of the rule of law, and a massive wave of public anger will judge the Democratic Party."
Regarding the inclusion of a provision to ease court rulings for the dismissal of indictments in the Criminal Procedure Act amendment, Floor Leader Chung pointed out, "They have committed a shameless trick akin to a bottom-card swap in a rigged gambling game," and asked, "Is the 'working National Assembly' shouted by the Democratic Party merely an assembly that paves an escape route to erase President Lee Jae-myung's trial?"
Furthermore, regarding the National Assembly Act amendment scheduled to be submitted following the processing of the Criminal Procedure Act amendment in the plenary session this afternoon—which aims to shorten the fast-track bill review period from a maximum of 330 days to 90 days—Floor Leader Chung evaluated it as "a rubber-stamp law for the legislature, a dictatorial evil law designed to turn the National Assembly into a machine that raises its hands faster and obeys blindly."
